LIBRARY OF CONGRESS
La Bibliothèque du Congrès a été fondée à Washington en 1800, initialement pour servir les besoins des membres du Congrès. Devenue par la suite la Bibliothèque nationale des États-Unis, elle reçoit, au titre du dépôt légal, deux exemplaires de chaque ouvrage publié dans le pays et possède un fonds très riche de manuscrits, partitions de musique, cartes, films et enregistrements. C'est elle qui attribue au niveau international les numéros d'ISBN.
